The works of illustrator Julia Petrova, are like the love child of the notorious video game Grand Theft Auto and 80’s television show, Miami Vice.
Petrova primarily creates her work with ink and watercolor in moleskin notebooks, though she has also ventured into animating her works into GIFS. Her inspiration ranges from Roman Polanski films to vintage travel postcards from Las Vegas and the south west.
Though based out of Moscow, Petrova’s artwork depicts sinister tropical scenes and psychedelic cityscapes that are rich with hipster fodder. Pink gradients wash over crop-topped women while antiquated boom-boxes lay amongst pizza boxes…this must be Brooklyn, right?
