It wasn’t exactly shocking when news came out this week that controversial Chinese artist, Ai Wei Wei, found government surveillance bugs hidden in his Beijing studio. After returning from his first trip abroad since 2011, he uncovered what appeared to be listening devices hooked up behind electrical outlets – which he posted on his own Instagram and Twitter for the world the see. He even went as far as to post a video of himself lighting off fire-crackers in a bucket next to the device, captioned “Can You Hear This?“.
Ai Wei Wei has occasionally seemed a bit paranoid, but apparently for good reason. In the spirit of this creepy invasion of Wei Wei’s privacy, we created a list of works that will totally BUG you out (see what we did there?)
