French artists Agnès Varda (aka AV) and JR (aka JR) are looking to hit the road in a Photobooth truck for their first project collaboration- a documentary/road trip adventure about art installations and the people of Provence, France. Before they can get going, they need help, €50,000 of help. The duo needs funding to kick start the venture, which is anticipated to begin in July.
The project will document the “creation and execution” of JR’s art installations, which are blown up portrait collages that are installed on walls, buildings, and any other impossible place you could think of. The artists will be meeting, greeting, and taking portraits of the people of Provence. Some of the portraits will be given as gifts, others will be blown up and turned into grand scale collages pasted throughout “specific cultural locations,” some temporary, some permanent.
While AV and JR have had some of their initial costs covered, they still need fundings to cover the overall budget. If AV and JR can meet their overall goal, then any extra donations will be used to let AV and JR “improvise additional scenes and situations.” In other words, mo’ money doesn’t mean mo’ problems – instead more fun things to do and more fun things for you to see.
If this cute video is representative of the documentary, the end result should be pretty entertaining.
