It’s no wonder that a filmmaker with an eye like Wes Anderson’s can inspire the creativity of others. This year, San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery is bringing its Anderson-themed group show, “Bad Dads” to the Joseph Gross Gallery in NYC.
Featuring nearly 300 works from over 80 artists, the show features sculpture, painting, and illustration drawing on the many films in Anderson’s oeuvre. His highly stylized aesthetic and propensity for rich character development prove fertile ground for these artists – You are guaranteed to find at least one piece that speaks to you in this well curated show.
The bellboy from the auteur’s latest work, The Grand Budapest Hotel, is a popular theme among the artists. Real nerds will love some of the oblique references to Rushmore, and of course there’s more than enough Bill Murray to go around.
Currently, the Facebook invite for this event has nearly 40,000 people that have expressed interest in attending, so this is sure to be quite the scene come this August.
Bad Dads VI is on view August 7th – 9th, 2015 at Joseph Gross Gallery in New York City. For more information email spokeartgallery@gmail.com
