We all know how soul-crushing the morning commute can get. Spark Your City, a new initiative starting this year, is aiming to change that. They describe themselves as a “global movement dedicated to spark joy in everyday city life.” With a goal of organizing 1,000 pop-up art events across 50 cities worldwide, Spark Your City debuted this week with “Love Mondays.”
Dreamt up by BBC1 presenter Gemma Cairney, “Love Mondays” turned the dreary walkway of the London Bridge into a rainbow road. All 300 meters of the bridge were covered in a colorful patchwork carpet while Cairney, clad in a technicolor dreamcoat, handed flowers out to the nearly 150,000 commuters who cross the River Thames every day.
“Urban Jungle,” the next event from Spark Your City, will be in London on August 12th. Join famed children’s TV presenter Helen Skelton to “uncover the city’s hidden adventures”.
