Finally, the real-life version of Whoville has been created, colorful mountainside and all! Except the climate here looks a heck of a lot different than the fictional Dr. Seuss town.
Seated right outside of Mexico City, is Las Palmitas, the small neighborhood infamous for drug trading within the larger city of Pachuca. German Crew, a group of artists in Mexico, gave the homes on the hillside a beautiful makeover, promoting a more positive and healthy culture in the area. The youthful crew spent months organizing and completing the rainbow “macro-mural” which covers over 215,000 square feet of land and 209 homes in total.
This isn’t their first go-round at a “macro-mural” – in fact German Crew considers their many works as Neo-Muralism, an alternative to graffiti and murals. The crew’s artwork aims to reinvigorate public spaces in Mexico and reestablish themselves as the worldwide leader in murals (as they once were).
Their inspiring work deep in the Mexican landscape can be seen as easily from the bottom of the hillside, as on a plane flying overhead. As such a driven young organization their future is looking bright (literally).
