It’s a far cry from the SNL-esque reality of the daily commute in present day Los Angeles, but the road system in the City of Angels didn’t spring from nothing.
These photos depict the LA of the late 1890s and early 1900s, when much of the city’s nascent infrastructure was still comprised of unfinished dirt roads.
LA still has a law on its books that prohibits herding more than 2,000 sheep down Hollywood Boulevard and it’s no wonder why – just imagine that traffic jam!
