If you are one of those rare humans that are fond of both felines and art, then I’m about to make your daily internet usage a lot more fun. Emily McAllister at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has created an amusing alternative to a blank Internet webpage from inside the Met’s Media Lab.
Meow Met is a downloadable web extension that transforms the dull Chrome tabs you rack up everyday into random works of art that feature cats. No joke. Every time you open a new browser you are faced with a furball, along with a caption giving you the title of the work, the artist, date, and a link to the Met’s website to feed you more information about the work (this is a great marketing technique if you ask me).
Just to be clear, I am NOT a cat person so I will NOT be constantly opening new tabs in hopes of checking out the latest cat-works. However, as an art enthusiast, I do have some ideas of contemporary works featuring cats in case MoMA wants to cash in on the cat/internet trend…
Editor’s Note: Cats are great, the internet is great, Meow MET is really really great, Emily McAllister is my new hero.
