Is it inappropriate to ask your boss for a Christmas gift, even if the gift would potentially benefit the entire office? I don’t mean to rush the summer, however with Labor Day approaching I can’t help but daydream about foliage, flannels, hot chocolate…and presents. Lots and lots of presents.
In perfect throwback fashion, the out-of-reach gift at the top of my list is this giant Lite-Brite, which is actually called Everbright, and was designed by the geniuses at Hero Design.
Everbright is an interactive 4 x 8 feet LED-powered board that was inspired by the original Hasbro toy. It features 464 customizable color dials that can turn any shade of the rainbow with a flick of the wrist, can be programmed with animation sequences, and even communicate with other boards around the world. Refreshing it back to its black slate is as simple as clicking a button.
Head designer Alan Rorie and the rest of the team at Hero Design create interactive installations and custom projects for didactic spaces like museums, start-up companies, and children-friendly areas. Everbright is being marketed as a collaborative business play thing that was designed for “a high-tech world whose people still have analog desires,” because those giant interactive HD whiteboards are “useful” but not “cool.”
In case you’re still not sold, Hero Design has provided us with 8 simple reasons why the Everbright is really, really cool and totally belongs next to my desk.
- Solve hard problems faster.
- Embolden your team.
- Zero awkward happy hours.
- Say “I Love You” to introverts.
- Keep motivational speeches mercifully brief.
- Make breaks productive.
- Engage right out of the box.
- Make your office art interactive.
I don’t know about you, but they had me sold by number 3. To read more about the Everbright, check out Hero Design’s website for additional information.
