Activist Print, an aptly named new project by The Andy Warhol Museum and Artist Image Resource (AIR), recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to commission three local Pittsburgh artists to create socially and politically charged screen prints in 2016. The works will ultimately be displayed on the shuttered windows and walls of Rosa Villa, the vacant bar/restaurant across the street from the museum (previously the host to murals by superstar Shepard Fairey). In part with Art Basel Crowdfunding, Activist Print has petitioned to raise $20,000 to cover artist stipends, material costs, curatorial fees, and technical support from AIR.

With rewards for even a mere $5 contribution (a blown kiss from museum director Eric Shriner), it’s no wonder Activist Print is already halfway to their goal with a week left to go. And due to the plethora of horror stories that is our domestic and international current events (election season will certainly be material enough), we can surely expect some riveting and rousing reflections of our public discontent.
