Art can change the world. These five simple words launched a company that has a very inspirational back story and an even more inspiring mission.
Independent notebook brand Denik hit the ground running when a few guys from Utah State University decided that they could utilize their artistic skills for the greater good. They believed that by collaborating with artists from all over the world, they could produce a product that could help change the world.
Here’s how it works: Artists submit their work – typically prints, paintings, sketches, and drawings – and Denik uses the images for the cover of sketchbooks and notebooks. The books are then sold, with a portion of the profit going towards funding the creation of schools in developing countries. In order to make this dream come true, the Denik connected with Pencils of Promise and Mali Rising (two organizations whose focus is to build fully functioning schools with sustainable education programs.)
The journals on average go for about $12. They also have iPhone cases that are sold with the matching notebook, going for about $30. The artsy images on their products range drastically, so there is something to appeal to everyone. Some feature motivational quotes, others are photographs of stunning landscapes, while some contain the occasional cute animal sketch or trendy graphic design.
As of now, they have 12 artists featured on their website, but anyone with interest can submit their design via their website. This is an incredible opportunity for emerging artists to have their work showcased all over the country.
They have had great success so far, already having built the Denik Middle School in Zambougou, Mali this year. Mali Rising helped Denik on this first accomplishment, and it will definitely not be their last. In fact, they are currently in the process of building a school in Guatemala. Denik has yet to release any information on their progress thus far, however, to keep updated or to purchase any of their rad products visit their website!
